Mr. Bungle - Vanity Fair
31 Days of Music
Day 2: Current Favorite Song
I struggled with this one for a while. There is usually a random pop song on the radio that is my current favorite, but I couldn’t think of one. Finally, I settled on the one song that I will always play on any jukebox I get my hands on. Mr. Bungle and Mike Patton (see day 18 down the road) had long been a favorite before the album California came out and I first heard this song, Goodbye Sober Day, featuring the Balinesian monkey-chant towards the end. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing; I had never heard (and probably never will again) the monkey chant incorporated into pop music. It made me shiver with excitement for several hours until I could get to the record store for my own copy. Every time I hear it, I get the same excited charge. I were ever to seriously bang my head along to music, it would be to this song without a doubt.

Mr. Bungle “Retrovertigo”
This song is really special and different to me. (Different coming from Mr. Bungle, anyway.)
I remember for a time Mr. Bungle was like, all I used to listen to. I don’t know how, but they’ve managed to slip from my mind COMPLETELY, and after going through my old music (I haven’t weeded through it in a long time) I discovered my little Mr. Bungle stash and re-fell in love with this song. Another slow song of theirs that I like is “Pink Cigarette”. Had trouble decided which one I wanted to post, so I thought I’d mention it. xD

“Golem II: The Bionic Vapour Boy” Mr. Bungle
The Air Conditioned Nightmare
Inside of me today
There is no one
Only asteroids and empty space
A waste
…They’re looking through the windows at me…
Get me out of this air-conditioned nightmare
Rots your brain just like a catchy tune, yeah
You will hate life more than life hates you
Happiness is your illness in an air-conditioned nightmare
…Burn all your mementos of me…
Walkin’ on air
Up from the wheelchair
I’ll find the suicide
That I deserve
Walkin’ on sand
Forgotten where I am
But it’s so comfortable
Here in the sun…
I only see rainbows
Now that the bandages are gone
Through my window, there
From the skyscrapers
Down to the submarines
Birds and fairies
Sanctuaries
Atop the rolling hills of hell
These words are sledgehammers
Of truth
That pound the iron heart
Of sinBloody smiling
Vandalizing
My wet dream is drying up…
Where’s my rainbow?
Where’s my halo?
There’s my halo!
It’s not fine… My ass is on fire!
I’m so obsessed with this band right now. Warning: This band is not for the faint at heart. They are extremely weird. Seriously.
The band Mr. Bungle was formed in 1985. They are an extremely awesome band that come up with the weirdest shit ever. They only made one music video, which would be this one. You probably won’t like it the first time you watch it, as it takes time to get into Mr. Bungle’s music. Listen to it a few more times and pay attention to how weirdly unique it is. Mr. Bungle should be
praised!!!This songs name is Quote Unquote, otherwise known as Travolta
